1.Knowledge about Aluminum

Aluminium is oxidized by water at temperatures below 280°C to produce hydrogen, aluminium hydroxide and heat:2 Al + 6 H2O → 2 Al(OH)3 + 3 H2

This conversion is of interest for the production of hydrogen. Challenges include circumventing the formed oxide layer, which inhibits the reaction and the expenses associated with the storage of energy by regeneration of the Al metal.

Aluminium is theoretically 100% recyclable without any loss of its natural qualities. According to the International Resource Panel's Metal Stocks in Society report, the global per capita stock of aluminium in use in society (i.e. in cars, buildings, electronics etc.) is 80 kg (180 lb). Much of this is in more-developed countries (350–500 kg (770–1,100 lb) per capita) rather than less-developed countries (35 kg (77 lb) per capita). Knowing the per capita stocks and their approximate lifespans is important for planning recycling.

5.FAQ:

1)what is aluminum?

Aluminium (or aluminum; see spelling differences) is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery white, soft, nonmagnetic, ductile metal. Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface.

Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.

Q:i dont want aluminum cookware, but how about a stainless steel set with an aluminum core. Is this the same as aluminum pots and pans? Thanks.
The aluminum is encased in the stainless steel, usually as a thick disk in the bottom. It is an excellent conductor of heat and holds the heat well once it gets hot. All you see is the stainless, none of the aluminum because it's between two layers of stainless in the bottom of the pots. You are right, you don't want food cooked in straight aluminum, some metal taste can transfer to certain foods. That won't happen with stainless.
Q:This is not for around the house. It is for my lab. I am pretty sure these one wires are Aluminum, but I need the connector they were made with and the power cable is copper. Would it be okay to still try to join the two.
The main problem with aluminum wiring is cold creep. When aluminum wiring warms up, it expands. When it cools down, it contracts. Unlike copper, when aluminum goes through a number of warm/cool cycles it loses a bit of tightness each time. To make it worse, aluminum oxidizes, or corrodes when in contact with certain types of metal, so the resistance of the connection goes up. Which causes it to heat up and corrode/oxidize still more. Eventually the wire starts getting very hot, the insulation melts or it damages the fixture it's attached to, and possibly even cause a fire. Anything attached to aluminum wiring should be rated for it. It will be stamped with Al/Cu or CO/ALR. Wires should be properly connected (at least 3/4 way around the screw in a clockwise direction). Connections should be very tight. Any connections using push-in terminals should be redone with the proper screw connections. Connections between aluminum and copper wire need to be handled specially. The NEC requires that the wire be connected together using special crimp devices, with a special anti-oxidant grease. The tools and materials for this are expensive - not practical to do it yourself unless you can borrow the tool. Good luck.
Q:May anyone tell me what's the product when hydrochloric acid reacts with aluminum?HCl + Al → ?
Amonia Hydrochlorite
Q:In my line of work I see aluminum ground lugs, bonding nuts and straps and also neutral bars eat copper up, especially when exposed to the elements. I know how galvanic reaction works between elements under current load, but my question is why do aluminum and copper seem to hate each other more than any other? And, why would they still be required in usage together per NEC code?
that's a single alternative reaction. The aluminum and the copper swap places, yielding copper and aluminum sulfate. Please notice: the 1st answer describes a chemical equation with nitrate, no longer sulfate. otherwise, this is the perfect format.
Q:i have about 100lbs of aluminum blocks and scrap.
WOW.......they must be worth sum money. Lucky you!!!!!!
Q:Please tell me the the size of the piece of aluminum that you give the weight messurements.
This Site Might Help You. RE: How much does Pure Aluminum weight, and what is its density or durability? Please tell me the the size of the piece of aluminum that you give the weight messurements.
Q:metals an aluminum can is made of, cast aluminum, 6160 aluminum, sheet aluminum
the aluminum is alloyed with various metals to change the characteristics of the aluminum the link below shows a table showing the various chemical/metals added to aluminum to make different alloys
Q:What will be the pros and cons of using each of these materials? One thing to keep in mind is that aluminum alloys are good conductors of electricity.
get fiber glass, they will last a long time
Q:How to use aluminum sheet to roll a 12m-long aluminum coil with a diameter of 184cm?
According to project experience, first you should check the specification of the aluminum sheet and then design crafts such as connection method, installation and transportation according to equipment.
Q:my text says aluminium does not corrode much as a passive aluminium oxide layer is formed on it.Well other metals such as sodium adn potassium also form oxides. Why dont their oxides prevent further oxidation ?
Not sure. Maybe because Na K are more active than Aluminum.
