Is Aluminium Foil Safe to Use?

It just seems like yesterday when I was a little girl and my mom would pack a parantha in a tea towel and send it with me to my school for lunch. I loved the way the lunch was packed which never spilled a drop of oil and never messed my school bag. The years saw a new trend approaching. The tea towels were replaced by Aluminum Foil, as it was believed to keep the food warm, fresh and avert any spillage. Of course, we as a kid loved it, not that it mattered to us but we could crush the aluminum foil into a ball after finishing our lunch and play recklessly at the break. Unfortunately playing with it was the only legitimate and safe use of Aluminum foil. Now when I look back I realize how limited was our knowledge. We were unaware as to how unsafe it is to wrap the food with aluminum foil especially when it is hot.

A study showed that increasing level of aluminum in our food and life leads to brain and bone damage. The scary truth about aluminum is that it is found in so many things in our world and it is toxic to our bodies, even in small amounts. From household products to vaccinations, aluminum pervades our lifestyle, and if not monitored closely, can easily make its way into our bodies causing lasting, harmful effects. The researchers found dangerously high levels of aluminum in foods after being cooked, reheated, and even cooked in aluminum foil. If food is cooked on high temperature wrapped in the aluminum foil the aluminum leaches into your food and then in turn in your body. The cause for alarm is that when aluminum accumulates in the body, it can lead to osteoporosis and Alzheimer's.

Now over the passage of years when I have become a mother myself I want to see my kid grow up safe in the healthy environment. Although I cannot eliminate aluminum out of our lives completely but I can determine how to avoid it to the maximum. Then the question arises are there any viable substitutes for aluminum? What is that we can do to protect our food from getting toxic? These are some of the practices if followed can make our food stay safe.

Never cook, heat up, or place hot food on aluminum foil. You can use tempered glass containers to do that or more economic would be to use food wrapping paper or parchment paper instead.

Avoid storing tomatoes, citrus fruits, or spices in foil. As mentioned above food wrapping paper keeps the wrapped food fresh and doesn't contaminate it.

Never use aluminum pots or cooking utensils. Instead, invest in stainless steel pots and pans. You can even use seasoned cast iron skillets or pots or even stoneware as a substitute to aluminum pans.

Banana leaves have been considered as the most healthy and natural way of storing, cooking and reheating food. If you can easily find it in your vicinity it can be the best substitute of aluminum foil.

While baking use of aluminum foil can be avoided if you line your baking sheet with parchment paper to bake your cookies or even roast your veggies and poultry.

If you need to cover your food while or after baking then again parchment paper is the answer, it doesn't let your food become dry and saves it from splashing all over the oven.

I can't undo my past but I know for sure that the future of my family lies in my hands. I can pretend to be ignorant or simply callous but ultimately the loss is mine. It's better we adopt healthy and safe food practices like eliminating the use of aluminum foil from our lives and embracing ways like use of banana leaves or food wrapping paper. Don't wait, start today!

Q:I take an extracurricular aircraft class, and I got the okay to take some old painted sheet aluminum for another project I'm working on. The problem is, what I'm using it for I need bare aluminum. I heard around that air crafts are painted with something that regular (store-bought) paint stripper can't remove. Is this true? I am aware of the fact that stripping something like that will result in a toxic paint sludge, so I've taken precautions for that. I just need to know if heavy-duty paint stripper from Home Depot will do the job. Thanks :)
As above, an automotive shop might be able to help you with the correct stripper. If you can find someone who does aircraft finishing, he might help you. A lot of aviation type finishes (Imron, for example) are used in upper end automotive shops for exclusive finishing. You might get some help there. I would be careful about using ordinary strippers on aircraft aluminium. If your project is not going to fly, you would be safe. You might scratch the finish on your sheet though, getting the old paint off. If your project is going to fly, you need to use the correct process. It seems to me that (some time ago), I have heard of a sandblast process, using crushed walnut shells rather than sand, to remove paint from aircraft. Failing all that, you can try a commercial stripper on a small corner of your aluminium sheet to see what it does. Whatever you do, good luck, and have fun. It sounds to me like you could turn this into a research project all by itself.
Q:Hey! I have an Aluminum MacBook (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 9400m graphics processor), and I'm wondering whether it's worth updating to the new 2011 13 MacBook Pro. I'm mainly looking for two things: 1. What would be the difference between the 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, and the 2.3 GHz i5, and 2. What would be the difference between the 9400m and the HD 3000 Graphics? Thanks! :)
The macpro is the better machine, but for most people the difference would be negligible. your aluminum is still MORE than good enough for almost all people. What are you using it for? If you're into CAD, by all means upgrade. But if you're just surfing the net, save your money. HD3000 is actually worse graphics, but the rest of the machine is better EDIT: AGAIN, it depends on what you are using it for!!! Despite using additional details, you never once discussed how it is to be used. If you read the post, it says, for most people the difference would be negligible. IF your needs are resource intensive, you might need to replace it. If your needs are not resource intensive, you can save your money. For example, I don't need to buy a new car every year, I usually make it last 5-6 years. But my computing requirements are high enough where I replace my laptops every two years and desktops alternating years so I always have a machine that is less than a year old. MOST people squeeze 4 or more years out of a computer. If you are a general ed, humanities or undeclared your aluminum would suit you just fine thgouh your lower 2 years even though it is older. You could then get a new computer for your upper division. If you were a engineering or architecture student, I'd upgrade after first year courses, If you're in business or engineering, get a PC, if you're in architecture, journalism, music or design get a mac. Any other major, it really doesn't matter. Good luck in school!
Q:I am planning on calling an electrician before we move in. I was just wondering about some ballpark estimates to rewire a home with aluminum wiring (appx. 1900 sq feet).
lol alot.
Q:i have about 100lbs of aluminum blocks and scrap.
WOW.......they must be worth sum money. Lucky you!!!!!!
Q:Who knows the color coated aluminum roll, that is, roll coating manufacturers? Yes, let me know!
Henan Xintai professional production of aluminum and aluminum coated aluminum roll coating
Q:Never put oil in the water. Oil keeps the pasta from absorbing the sauce. Also add a little of the pasta water 3 Tbs. to the sauce. This helps sauce to adhere to pasta. The best remedy for pasta sticking. Use an aluminum stock pot. (tall pan). I don't know why but this works. I have using this stock pot for pasta for 40 years. I've tried stainless, non-stick, etc. they all stick. Except for the Aluminum.1 lb. of pasta, 4 qts. of water. 1Tbs. saltTurn burner to high, keep it therebring to boil then boil for 3 minutes, add 1 TBS salt, add pasta. Stir slowly 2 minutes, until the water boils. Cook tender enough for a fork to cut through but still a little firm
cool tip. thanks.
Q:For an intake manifold on a car, as far as increasing the inlet air temperature which is better steel or aluminum? Assuming the cylinder heads are aluminum, and half the thickness of steel is used versus aluminum. I know that steel has a lower heat capacity than aluminum, so does this mean even in this case the steel will heat up quicker and disperse the heat into the inlet air more than aluminum? Basically which material will keep the inlet air as low as possible. I know certain plastics are better than both, but I'm just curious about these two metals. Thank you.
Increasing heat temperature (Highest point) must be less than melting point of the Aluminum (1221 degree Fahrenheit). Now factor of the weight and stabilizing is important to choose the metal in that section .Aluminum is like fire cricket during melting and if be in flounce of the over heating my cause lot of damages .
Q:I wrap everything with aluminum foil and bake it in the oven -- fish, meat, vegetables. Is this really safe? Or safe when done occasionally? Or should I find a new way?
I use aluminium foil often for baking however I use baking paper between the food and the foil. I am sure it is safe to use foil, however I find that on occasions the foil sticks to the food, so I use the non stick paper between. I hope this helps.
Q:I'm wondering if there is a resin/molding material that can withstand the heat of melted aluminum for casting parts. I know that sand casting is the 'norm' but is there anything else? I'd rather not have to pack sand every time I want to cast a part. Thanks!
One common mold material for metal casting is plaster mixed with silica sand to give it more strength. It needs to be completely (like heated) dry before you use it, but it is actually more work than sand casting but it gives a better finish. There are some rubber materials which can withstand the heat of casting pewter, but the melting point of pewter is so much lower than aluminum that I am sure those won't work for aluminum. I think you are pretty much stuck with sand for the easiest method.
Q:Its got probably 330 horses right now with aluminum heads what do you think it be approx.
Head material does NOTHING. It is the DESIGN of the heads that is important. WHAT kind of car is this??Aluminum heads can crack easier depending upon WHO makes the heads and for what application. Expect NO real improvement. There are OTHER considerations, like intake system. cam shoice, compression ratio, and other factor5s. GOOD LUCK!!
