- it doesn't really matter. I have all appliances in my kitchen stainless steel. All different makes never noticed the tone, I think it just depends on the grain. i clean my appliances side to side not up and down. Good question never thought about that.

- Go to junkyard get old leaf spring, cut out knife, start sharpening. Why waste time heat treating steel when the spring steel as already be done.

If you take a magnet and it is not attracted to this strap, the strap is 304 SS. 304SS only gains strength through work hardening (making it thinner by rolling) Heat treating doesn't affect it.
- Q:Brass as a rule I believe is betterhowever I do not plan to get into reloading any time soon I just want some cheap practice ammo so will steel case ammo hurt my gun (semi auto) any more than brass ammo and if so how much more?
- If it's new you want to use quality brass ammo the first few hundred rounds. After that it doesn't matter. But do not you cannot use brass and steel in the same session. The lacquer tends to stay behind in the chamber, will fuse with the brass and you get torn case heads. So when using steel always only use steel that session and scrub the chamber down.

- Dear Ian, Magnetism doesn't add up or average out in that manner. Ferro-magnetism requires that all the spins align. This is a complex effect and needs a subtle interaction between adjacent atoms in the lattice and their singlet electrons. The distance between the the atoms is what is important. Some stainless steels are ferromagnetic because they have the correct spacing, others are not because the spacing is wrong. This spacing is influenced by the makeup of the alloy.
