- Q:Is steel case ammo going to mess the gun up or is it just going to wear the parts out faster and if so how much faster? (I am not planning on reloading the rounds)
- The ak was designed with the steel cased ammo in mind. The only real wear is going to be the chamber area, and even at that, it is going to take many thousands of rounds to wear it out. be more concerned with the corroive ammo, and clean the firearm well with warm soapy water or military bore cleaner after each shooting session.

- Indoor ranges and ranges that provide steel targets don't like them because of the additional wear and tear on their equipment. Some outdoor ranges don't allow them because they can strike sparks when they hit rocks and cause a fire. Others don't care. Best to call ahead or check the range's web site, if any, to see what they allow and don't allow.

- Have you ever watched any of the shows where people are buying lockers at storage facilities? This style lock is used quite often. The reason for the small shackle is to prevent someone from using bolt cutters. Unfortunately, if a thief has a cordless right angle grinder with the right cutting blade they will still be able to remove it. That is what the guys at most of these auctions use to remove them in 10-15 seconds.

- Q:Why are steel saucepans and tea kettles covered with copper on the outside and the bottom? what r the goals of having high-quality pans that are thick and tea kettles that are thin walled?
- The issue is heat conduction. Copper trasferrs heat rapidly and therefore ensures uniform heat around the base or sides of teh pot. The thick walls can be two different purposes. Sometimes the steel is made in layers for the purpose of providing insulation. If a pot insulates heat then the heat will transfer in a steady manner and the need for constant fuel heat is reduced. Thus, if I want to simmer and can store some of the heat in the pot itself then I know it will transfer slowly because it has to go through the layers first. Secondly, the layers will transfer heat between them allowing for uniform heating and this avoids hot spots. Wash you pots with an acid. Lemon will clean copper very nicely. If you have to scrub then heat gently and use salt or baking soda as an abrasive. With a tea kettle you do not care about heat conduction past the point of the boil. when the boil arrives the job is done.

- If your talking about a folding pocket knife, I think that it's basically six one way and a half dozen the other. I actually do prefer stainless for my pocket knives. I don't want to oil a knife to the degree I feel carbon requires, only to then stick it my pocket to attract dirt to the knife and oil to my pants. I'm the exact opposite on sheath knives though. I like 1095 carbon steel, plain edge sheath knives. I'll thrash on them HARD, and I rarely have major edge problems. Of course, I require them to be coated with some kind of powder coat or the like, because they can rust, but I do try and keep them clean and dry when in the sheath, so they won't pit the uncoated edge. My reasons for this sheath knife preference is multi-fold. First, these knives are simply affordable. I don't spend $80 dollars on a outdoors sheath knife. I use the tool too hard to want to spend more. I don't like the more traditional stainless steels such as AUS-8, 420HC, and 440C (not to mention the HORRENDOUS 440A) because I feel that the all else being equal, a stainless blade will bend before a carbon blade will break. I also think that carbon holds an edge at least as well, if not better, than traditional stainless, and it's much easier to hone. I don't know much about these new laminates, other than the very hard, but not so tough. They seem to be POSSIBLY too brittle for my use. That, combined with the fact that they cost a FORTUNE, means that I just won't be considering them.
