PORTLAND CEMENT

Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general use around the world, used as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and most non-specialty grout.

It is a fine powder produced by heating materials in a kiln to form what is called clinker, grinding the clinker, and adding small amounts of other materials.

Several types of Portland cement are available with the most common being called ordinary Portland cement (OPC) which is grey in color, but a white Portland cement is also available.

Application

CNBM Cement can be used for all types of architectural or structural concrete construction. Such application as pre-cast panels and systems, cast-in-place, masonry units, tilt-up panel systems, roofing tiles, terrazzo floors, highway median barriers, tile grout, swimming pools, stucco, culture stone, colored masonry products, cement paints and coatings, and ornamental precast concrete items.

Q:When installing cement backer board, is it necessary to put down some thin set mortar and then lay the board and screw in place, or can I do without the thin set?
When doing a cement board you MUST apply a filler .. This is thin set . This provides that there are no gaps or weak spots between the cement board and your subflooring. All you need to do this is a 1/4 x 1/4 square notched trowel. I will spread the thin set and put in a pre cut or whole pc and walk on the pc to make sure it s embedded into the thin set. Some people will say construction adhesive, but this will still allow gaps. ATC and TCA tile hand book guide lines call for a FULL spread in between the sub floor and cement board. Then using a minimum 1 1/2 inch galvanized roofing nails or screws to put down the board with. This is done 8 inches in the field and no less than 6 inches along the seams ( I do 3/4 inches) Any other questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications there GL
Q:what's the right way of mixing it? the instructions said 1 part of water for 5 parts of cement. i poured 1 cup of water to 5 cups of the cement but i the right texture didn't come out. it's too dry.
Quikrete Instructions
Q:It has four cement walls but the bad thing is there is a water pump in the pit, so area is limited inside, like an area 5X5, and it has the floor of the house as it's quot;coverquot;.
No it is not to be safe in a cement well because the wind can be funneled in the well and you will die for sure if any debris gets down there.
Q:Where I live, winter doesn't have much snow. There is a small ski place with a snowmaker in the city that's about a 15 minute walk from my house. I've been walking there for the last few days and was worried that me walking on the sidewalk for 15 minutes a day with mith my board boots on could damage them. Can it?
Yes... It will slowly wear them down and curve the edges... It will smooth the bottom of them and that can be dangerous if you are going to use them because they can slip out of the strap
Q:I'm writing an essay on cement, one of the requirements is to define technology, but i don't just want a definition in the middle of my essay, so i need to make one paragraph relating technology with cement. any advice, pointers, ideas, would be greatly appreciated!
Well, you see, good cement/technology is strong, and much better and more useful things can be bulit upon it, but weak cement/technology doesn't last long, and nothing good can be built on it.
Q:I know they say kids don't keep a man but it is a lifelong commitment so why not?if the relationship is good or bad I truly do believe a child is a way to emotionally cement that man into your life?I know many people will disagree...so why do I honestly feel this way? Do you know any women who have done this and how did the situation turn out?I need quot;helpquot; I want to get this dumb notion out of my headI'm 24 I should know better
Despite what others might say, it can cement the relationsship if you BOTH want children, and, if you are not married then you must also be prepared to bring up the child alone if he decides that he no longer wants to be involved. A marriage is a more solid commitment whereas just a relationship can be an escape clause for either partner. Either partner can still leave a marriage but the consequences are more dire. If the man doesn't want children, ever, then having a child will just cause resentment within him. You need to talk with his parents to see if his ideals as a parent would suit bringing up a child or whether he is too immature to understand the responsibilities. An immature man will leave you but a responsible man will accept the child even if he did not want to have children. If the relationship involves violence, illicit drug use, alcohol abuse or irresponsible behaviour like excessive gambling, or petty crimes like shop-lifting etc then I would advise against having a child in this relationship until both of you accept responsibilities for being adults.
Q:I am working on planning my eagle scout project. It is being done at a local elementary school. Part of it involves building a pathway from their bus area to the entrance so the students don't walk through the grass. The path is about 70 feet long. Would it be cheaper to use cement or to build it out of bricks. Also, which would be easier? Thanks, Johnny.
If you use cement then you'll either have to have a electric cement mixer or a big wheel barrow. then you'll have to continously lift 50 pound bags of mix and rock into the mixer or if it's a wheel barrow then you'll have to mix it by hand with a shovel and use the correct amounts of water for it to cure correctly and not crack or cure at all. But first you'll have to level the ground by hand as I imagine you wont have a bobcat, then you'll have to build 70 foot long forms from 2X4's and reinforce them with rebar so it stays put. Then you'll have to by type 2 base to line the bare ground and rent a compactor to flaten it. Then if your backs not sore enough you start mixing the cement at an estimate of about 2 tons per cubic yard and do all that math depending on how wide and depth time 70 feet to get the estimate of how much your gonna be in debt for buying all this. So is that the easiest way?? HELL NO! thats why people use mixer trucks to pour side walks. Now if I were you i'd use what they call pavers. Those are the decorative flat bricks you see in secret gardens and what not. They come in all types of shapes and some places carry different colors. This will set you back about $.79 to $1.80 a piece and the average paver is about 12 inches LxW and 1 1/2D. These cover area without crushing the bank account. All you'll need is to level the ground of course, order the right amount base which is a sand and gravel mix and rent a compactor. Level, spread, compact and lay. Thats cheaper and easier as well as giving a custom touch to your project. Good luck dude.
Q:All I can find is on Wikipedia, but I need more than that!I would be really grateful!!Thank you!
You are looking at lime based mortar and concrete (opus siginum to the Romans). I have used ordinary builders lime, dry in bags, and mixed it as you would with cement 5:1, and let it rest for around 24 hours before use. the great thing about lime based mortar is that when it begins to go hard, you can add more water and mix it again without loss of strength as would be the case with O.P.C. It does take a long time to set, weeks if the weather is cold and wet but the resulting mortar is very good for stone and soft brick as it will allow the structure to move and settle, also when frost freezes the water in the wall, it is the lime mortar that is blown out, not the stone or brick.
Q:How are the ashes from a volcano used to make cement?
Commercial cement is not made from volcanic ash. It is usuually made with limestone or marble (source of CaO) as the main ingredient. Other incredients include some clay and gypsum. After mixing the stuff is heated to form clinker then with some more mixing goes into bags, bins, or tanks for mixing with sand, gravel and water to make concrete. Volcanic ash will harden somewhat into a cement-like compound when it becomes wet. Many cars had their paint jobs ruined in 1980 by Mt. St. Helens ash mixed with a little precipitation.
Q:how the grades are given to cement brand?
By the refind or if it contains gravel the cement. Depending what are you using it for! You don't want # 1, when you putting cement in the back of the house, where nobody is going to play!! But you want the refind cement for a driveway!!
