Q:I was wondering if anyone knew the grade/type of steel for this product. I'd like to use it as stock for a knife blade, but would like to know the specs so I can determine if it is suitable and, if so, how best to heat treat it.Thanks.PS: I know it isn't stainless, but that leaves a lot of other steel types.: 1018 mild steel. Not suitable for bladesmithing. If you can't heat treat find an old file, grind it out (keep it cool) and put in an oven 400F. Modern car/truck springs are 5160 med chrome steel, a good blade quality steel and forgiving on the anvil/heat treat.

Q:I've heard different things bout them, though I do not know this. Oh, and if you know where you can buy some raw or get custom made stuff out of black steel please let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Oh and my friend told me there is a black steel that can be sharpened and silver will be underneath, is this also true? Thank you very much for answering ^^: My son is a bit and spur maker,I asked him about that and he told me that it is a tag they put on bits so a novice person will pay more for a bit that is not any better. Steel is Steel You should have a lot of bite with that bit because it is a pretty fine diameter. The black patina will wear off with use. BTW he just sent two silver bits to a big show in Reno Nev. I have not seen them or pictures of them but he has a $2,000 price tag on each of them. They must be real elaborate probably very fancy spade bits with highly engraved multicolored different metal butterflies on the ports.

The only way to be sure that you are getting a good blade is to buy from someone that already has a reputation for producing great blades. Stop the questions about who thinks what type of steel is best and investigate the steel blades offered by companies like Bugei Trading company. they have good blades. Opinions vary, but Bugei has proven that they make good swords. That is all that is needed to be known. Any questions you have are best directed to them, not here.

The properties of carbon steel depend very much on the carbon content . too much and it is very brittle. It is all governed by a complex phase diagram. If the steel isn't actually melted, then only insignificant effects at the surface will occur.

I am not sure how to compare efficiency of largest steel mill in Czech Republic in comparison to China which is the biggest exporter, but Czech steel factories were modernized and run more efficient that 25-35 years ago, and been privatized and owned by Mittal. The workforce had been shrinking, so not exactly sure what that c is pointing to (aging of workforce, size of it, or quality). Northern Moravia is a part of larger coal basin that extend to Poland with large coal deposits. This was foundation for the steel industry in the 1800's together with large ore deposits that was mined in proximity of the Beskidy mountains less than 25 miles from Ostrava. The iron ore mines had been depleted for several decades, and since the late 70's when communists run the country, they were already importing Soviet iron ore. Coal mining within city of Ostrava cased to exist in the 1990's due environmental issues, and also cost. The mines were getting deeper and more costly to operate and there is no more mining within Ostrava. Couple mines are still in operation in Karvina county which is next to Ostrava. Currently the coal deposits south of the city were not opened due environmental issue which would mean destruction of third largest mountain range in the country. Therefore, my conclusion is is b, as the ore and coal resources been shrinking. Q:hey therejust wondering about changing nylon strings to steel strings...i have an acoustic guitar and it has nylon strings, but i was thinking about switching to steel strings, as i think it sounds better.this might sound really stupid... but is that possible? i mean they call it a steel stringed GUITAR and nylon stringed GUITAR, so if i wanted to switch would i have to get a whole new guitar? please help, im reaaally confused!thanks: If it's a Fender, you will need wire cutters to cut the brass barrel shape off the end to feed the string into the clamp. Otherwise on most guitars you just anchor the string barrel at the bridge end, feed the string along the neck and through the hole in the capston and turn the string capston by using the handle The surplus string can just be coiled up. I never had a string winder for years, ---bit of a gimmick --- --but does save time. A point worth noting if considering splashing out on a string winder is that some of them are equipped with a wire cutter as well. 2 Tools in one eh!!
