- Check to see if it is an ionization-type smoke alarm. If it is, changing to a photoelectric-type may solve your problem. Before changing it, though, try cleaning it out. A hair dryer on cool, or a vacuum cleaner could do it. Do not get the combination ion/photo kind though.

- I think you're saying that anything that has a velocity must be matter, but that's simply not true. Light doesn't have mass.
